Chips, power, and heat (Simple Explanation)
A computer is hardware. Much of that hardware is chips. A chip is a small physical part. You cannot see the work inside it without tools. You can still say true things about it.
Chips need electricity to work. Electricity is not optional. If the power is gone, the chip stops.
ENERGY STAR is a U.S. program that rates products by energy use. For computers, it measures how much power a machine uses. It looks at more than one mode. A computer can use electricity when it is Off, when it is in Sleep, and when it is Idle. "Off" does not always mean "uses no power."
Power is not the same as heat. Extra electrical energy that the machine does not store, and does not send out as useful work, becomes heat. That is a qualified claim. ENERGY STAR measures power. It does not publish the temperature of your chip.
If you want to speak clearly, name the power mode. Do not treat heat as an ENERGY STAR number. It is not.
Why this matters before AI
Training or running a large model uses computers. Those computers use electricity. This page does not invent a watt number for "AI." It only says what the sources say: computers consume electricity, including in Off, Sleep, and Idle, and unused electrical energy shows up as heat.
